How I work

  1. 01

    Frame the real problem

    The brief is usually a proposed solution. I go back to what is actually failing and for whom.

  2. 02

    Map the constraints

    Business goal, user behaviour, technical cost. Written on one page so the trade-off is visible instead of implied.

  3. 03

    Name the trade-off

    I state what we are choosing and what we are giving up, and put it somewhere the team can disagree with.

  4. 04

    Prototype the risky part

    Not the easy screens. The one interaction that decides whether the idea survives contact with a user.

  5. 05

    Ship and define the metric

    The work is not done at handoff. It is done when we know what number tells us we were right.
